MEETING NOTES

Status of Action Items from last meeting on 5/28/08

 

  1. NYPA did meet with the City of North Tonawanda and Town of Grand Island about HIPs.
  2. NYPA prepared memo about the water level data for fish habitat/attraction structures.
  3. NYPA did contact boat race organizer about fish habitat/attraction structures.
  4. NREC will look into interest for a program for college students to observe construction of fish attraction structures.  Will report at next meeting.
  5. NYPA's internal Greenway Consistency review determined that HIPs are consistent with Greenway.  Rob Belue said that according to legislation as long as NYPA did internal review, it is not necessary to submit to Greenway Commission.
  6. NREC is trying to organize meeting with ornithological groups in October.
  7. NREC will report on its grant application for the Great Lakes Initiative
  8. Timing and process for future HIPs and potential leverage opportunities be on next meeting’s agenda
  9. Land acquisition funds will be allocated in 2009 Budget.
  10. NYPA is waiting for the name of entity to transfer $200,000 for Cayuga Creek Restoration.
  11. NYPA didn’t circulate STL protocols on how to spend funds.  Instead used Erie County Greenway example.  There is some value in the future so NYPA will send to group.

 


 

Agreements

  1. Rob Belue (Niagara River Greenway Commission) said that according to the legislation as long as NYPA does an internal Greenway Consistency review of HIPs, it is not necessary to submit the HIPs to Greenway Commission for review.

 

  1. NYPA stated that NYPA would consider an information kiosk for osprey nesting pole as a future project.

 

Action Items for this meeting

 

  1. Memo about the water level data for fish habitat/attraction structures will be on website.

 

  1. NREC will look into interest for a program for college students to observe construction of fish attraction structures.  Will report at next meeting.

 

  1. NREC is trying to organize meeting with ornithological groups in October.

 

  1. NREC will work with the Greenway Commission to conduct informational meetings about the Gorge.

 

  1. NREC will report on its grant application for the Great Lakes Initiative.

 

  1. Timing and process for future HIPs and potential leverage opportunities will be on next meeting’s agenda.

 

  1. NREC to report on an entity to receive $200,000 funding for Cayuga Creek Restoration.

 

  1. NYPA will circulate STL protocols with regards to future HIPs (HERF).

 

  1. Rob Belue (Niagara River Greenway Commission) to contact Paul Leuchner (Niagara River Greenway Commission) about new location on south end of East River Marsh for osprey pole and ask him to send his comments to NYPA.
